Verve astounded the Jazz community by pulling off a Beatles tribute record that was neither cliché or reverent.

The album package was as interpretive as the music, with an illustrative flair that carried the release into something truly unique.

The cover artwork for this album is of course a nod to the “group portrait” on the cover of the original Sgt. Pepper. Rendered by the unmistakable Keiichi Tanaami this cover sparked the tone for the rest of the album packaging and campaign assets. Including a special Obi strip for the Softpak edition.

Working to incorporate his playful approach into the type and layout for the rest of the package without disturbing his design with any titling. I built the LP and CD pacakge around a custom OBI strip and sticker that belied the layouts held within without pulling permanent focus from the illustrations.
