FOR NEW DEAL RECORDS & IMPULSE!

07. 2019 ︎ 08. 2019

This is a one of a kind record.

Spiritual incantations, mantra-like rhythms and saxophone all tangle and quietly drift apart. Each song is somehow both purposefully and delicately composed while losing none of the moment’s spontaneity. Simply, Ted Poor is one of the nations great percussion talents and it was one of my great pleasures to help condense the energy of his performances into a physical form.
We went to LA’s legendary Sound City recording studio with a small dedicated crew. We took over a section of Hollywood Boulevard and we let cameras roll. I took the images back to New York and infused the album’s singular attitude into the image treatments and type styling. Reverent yet forward facing.

︎︎︎ LIVE AT SOUND CITY
Since 1969 a small room in Van Nuys has been quietly churning out cornerstones of American music. Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Nirvana - these are just a few of the names who’ve made era defining albums in this studio.
In recent years the studio’s fallen under the control of another great talent - Blake Mills. It’s in this moment that we encounter Ted Poor and Andrew D’Angelo - playing together, unadorned in a performance from our cover shoot as captured by director Silvia Grav.
