If you listen to contemporary Jazz, you’ve heard of Joey Alexander. The 16-year-old Indonesian pianist and composer has been carting around the term “prodigy” for the entirety of his already prolific career. However, the term has had the unintended consequence of sidelining his talents from those of his older contemporaries. This album marks a departure from all that and reveals Joey for what he’s always been, a truly profound and talented composer and performer in his own right - age be dammed. 

The album’s title, “Warna” translates to “Colors” from his native Bahasa. It was our challenge to distil that same vibrant energy found in the music into the artwork itself. Through the opinionated typography, a the monastic yet modern approach to the gatefold abstraction and the stylized photo treatment, I believe we arrived at a standout piece fitting of this singular moment in what’s sure to be a long and storied discography.
